For anyone in the Libertyville Il area, you should check out my friend Sarah’s new Showhouse. Sarah is a top notch architect - her house is worth seeing - it will definitely be a treat. Its open every weekend until May 20th, 2012 (Saturday 9-4 and Sunday 1-4.) An evening with Diane Keaton

Diane Keaton is such a special person and actress. Her warmth and “realness” comes through in everything she does. Monday night I had the privilege of attending an event at the New York Public Library at which Ms. Keaton read from her new book, Then Again and answered a multiple of questions about herself and her Mom. We were also treated to several clips from her wonderful movies as well as personal home movie clips. She was as engaging and interesting as she has always been. Those of us who were lucky enough to attend were all delighted.

NAREE Conference in San Antonio

Last week attended the National Association of Real Estate Editors conference in San Antonio. I was totally honored to receive the Robert Bruss Gold Book Award, that was awarded there. But also really enjoyed spending time with this great group of people and had a wonderful time in a charming, friendly city including the Alamo, River Walk and really “fun” restaurants. Now, I’m home for a while to try and complete the next book - with my nose definitely to the grindstone.

Meeting a hero

It was such a treat to meet Robert Redford at his talk at the New York Times on January 8th. He’s not only the most important environmentalist we have in this country, a wonderful director, a talented actor and still handsome as can be - but he is also incredibly gracious and kind. It was a thrill to meet him and talk briefly with him about the environment.

Went to DC, one of my favorite cities to speak at the EcoBuild Convention. The convention seemed smaller and less attended than in previous years but it was interested to share the podium with Malcolm Davies of YardPod and OHome. He’s has vast experience in the prefab world, so it fun to share info with him.

On the way home from DC I learned that Prefabulous + Sustainable was going into a 3rd printing - which was great news.

Its been a while since I’ve found the time to blog. It seems I’ve spend most of the summer driving my sweet son to work, driver’s ed and to visit a variety of colleges. Traveling to all of these schools has been an eye-opening experience - schools sure have changed since I was at one myself. Today the dining rooms have so many choices - vegetarian, Kosher, Asian, Indian, gluten-free, and so on. When I went to college the choice was - take-it or leave-it. Today the washers and driers send text messages when the cycle is done, there are blue lights for safety everywhere, every type of club exists on campus and fitness centers rival the best private clubs around. Hopefully, the education is also superior.

I was delighted this morning to pick up an advance copy of USA Weekend, which is a supplement in over 400 papers in the US. There is an article - “Prefab homes get Chic.” I hope lots of people read this and agree.

Was really excited to wake up on Saturday to find an article about Prefabulous + Sustainable on the AOL front page. Its interesting to receive the comments that people are still surprised how beautiful prefab houses can be. I guess my prefab work is still not done.
